"Gaula Flyfishing Lodge and River Gaula closed
I’m very sad to announce about the decision made on 21st June 2024 by Norwegian Environment Agency authorities to close down salmon fishing in 33 rivers in Norway - including Gaula, Orkla, Nidelva, Stjördalselva, Verdalselva and many other famous Norwegian rivers starting at 00 on Sunday 23rd of June 2024.
The salmon catches in Norwegian rivers so far this season are significantly lower compared to last year. Smaller numbers of big salmon have been running into the rivers, and big salmon are extremely important for spawning. Rivers are at high risk of not reaching the spawning target numbers of salmon. All too many big salmon have been killed by anglers, which is a real shame.
Fishing will be closed until further note and on July 5th the authorities will review the situation. If there is new information indicating that the situation in the closed rivers is better than it appears to be, it may also be appropriate to open fishing again. I will follow the situation closely and will update as soon as there will be any information regarding the Gaula reopening.
At the moment Gaula Flyfishing Lodge week 26 (22.-29.6.2024) and week 27 (29.6.-6.7.2024) have been cancelled. If there will become more cancellations for any further weeks, I will keep updated our clients booked for those weeks. We will take contact our Gaula Flyfishing Lodge clients who have made bookings for cancelled weeks of the season 2024.
We will close our Gaula Flyfishing Lodge on Saturday 22nd June until the Gaula will be reopened.
